Washington’s transition to 100% clean energy by 2045 will make clean energy one of the fastest-growing sectors in the state. Job growth will be partly driven by state and local climate policies.
What’s the Opportunity?
Between 2023 and 2032, Washington is projected to see an estimated 45,000 job openings in clean energy. That includes brand-new roles and jobs that will open when people retire.
Some of the occupations in highest demand will include:
✅ Power Distributors and Dispatchers: Median salary $131,000
✅ Power Plant Operators: Median salary $116,400
✅ HVAC Mechanics and Installers: Median salary $65,300
What Education or Training Do You Need?
All positions require, at minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent along with moderate to long-term on-the-job training to reach full competency. Additionally, HVAC positions typically require certificates and apprenticeships to attain competency in the occupation.
