Starting college this fall felt exciting, nerve-wracking, and like the beginning of a completely new chapter in my life. I can already tell that this year will be full of change, new opportunities, and important life lessons. I want to approach this journey with a positive mindset by focusing on what I want to bring into my life, what I want to leave behind, and the goals I hope to accomplish during my first year of college.
My Ins for Freshman Year
One thing that is definitely “in” for me is stepping outside of my comfort zone. College is the perfect opportunity to meet new people, try new things, and experience life in a new way. I want to be open to making friends, joining clubs, and attending campus events even when it feels awkward at first.
Another important “in” for me is staying true to myself and not changing who I am just to fit in with different crowds. As I meet new people in college, I want to remember that the right friendships will come from being genuine and authentic. I do not want to feel pressured to change my personality, values, or interests just to be accepted by others.
Staying organized and managing my time wisely is also a major priority. With more freedom comes more responsibility, and I know staying on top of assignments, deadlines, and priorities will help me stay successful academically.
Self-care is another thing I want to prioritize during freshman year. Whether that means getting enough sleep, eating healthier, taking breaks, or protecting my mental health, I want to make sure I am taking care of myself while adjusting to college life.
Lastly, confidence is something I want to carry with me into this new chapter. I want to trust myself, believe in my abilities, and remind myself that I deserve to be where I am.
My Outs for Freshman Year
One thing I am leaving behind is procrastination. Waiting until the last minute only creates unnecessary stress, and I want to develop better habits when it comes to completing assignments and handling responsibilities.
Negative self-doubt is another thing that is “out.” Starting college can be intimidating, but constantly comparing myself to others or doubting my abilities will only hold me back. I want to focus on my own journey and personal growth instead.
Toxic friendships and relationships are also something I want to leave behind. College is a fresh start, and I want to surround myself with people who support, motivate, and bring out the best in me.
Another thing I want to leave behind is the fear of failure. I know I make many mistakes, but I want to start seeing these as learning experiences instead of reasons to give up.
Goals I Want to Set for Myself
One of my biggest goals for college is to maintain strong grades and stay focused on my academics. Education is so important to me, and I want to put in the effort needed to be successful.
Another goal is to build meaningful friendships and connections. I hope to meet people who make college enjoyable and who I can grow alongside throughout this new chapter of life.
Lastly, I want to enjoy the experience and create memories. College is about more than just academics; it’s also about discovering who I am, growing as a person, and making memories.
Final Thoughts
I know there will be challenges, success, setbacks, and many lessons learned during my first year in college. Even though I may not have everything figured out yet, I am excited to embrace this journey. My college experience is not only about earning a degree but also about becoming the person I want to be and building the future I dream of.
